This review found that chitosan-based hydrogels show promise for wound care because they maintain moisture, create a barrier against bacteria, and can be loaded with antibacterial agents to prevent infection. When combined with cellulose and crosslinked with synthetic polymers, these hydrogels improved mechanical strength and helped skin regenerate faster—but this was a review of existing research, not new experimental data.
