Findings

Three sugar alcohols—mannitol, sorbitol, and xylitol—were deemed safe for use in cosmetics at current concentrations. These ingredients work as humectants (they draw moisture to skin) and skin conditioners, and the expert panel found no safety concerns with how they're being used in beauty products right now.
